New: Sofia at The Gunawarman

Inspired by the idea of a sophisticated Italian lady in the 19th century, Sofia at The Gunawarman offers hearty European and Indonesian cuisine in a palatial setting.

The comforting sound of a coffee machine and the alluring sight of bread and cakes sitting nicely on the patisserie welcomed us at Sofia at The Gunawarman, a new establishment situated on the busy street of Gunawarman in Senopati. With a grandiose façade that features an eye-catching design like those of classic European buildings, it was not a hard task to spot the venue. Coming in, guests are welcomed to what turns out to be a hotel, The Gunawarman, which is part of Syah Establishments, the hospitality and entertainment company behind Lucy in the Sky, Bau-haus 1933 and Ling-Ling founded by Felly Imransyah.

Stepping a little bit further into the restaurant, one cannot help being impressed by the opulent interior of Sofia, which immediately transports guests into the olden days of Europe. Floor-to-ceiling arched windows, a high ceiling and a mix of wood, marble and grey concrete adorn the venue with a collection of antique pieces and paintings by Donald Robertson, the fashion world’s favourite artist according to Vanity Fair. The lounge at the front of the restaurant features antique chairs and sofas with scattered carpets, giving it a vintage vibe.

“Sofia is the heart and soul of The Gunawarman, our hotel, which will open at the end of August,” says Communication Director Izabel Jahja. “When we conceptualised the restaurant, we imagined a sophisticated 40-year-old Italian lady called Sofia and created a restaurant that she would like. It is a gourmet restaurant with a casual ambiance that allows guests to unwind and relax.” Sofia soft launched at the end of April. Offering not only Italian but also French and Indonesian dishes, the restaurant is led by Executive Chef Rovic Maulana, who works together with Pastry Chef Fadhli Febrian Syah from Kitte, a bakery at The Gunawarman which is also part of Sofia.

Available for lunch and dinner, the menu ranges from burger, sandwich, homemade pasta and pizza, to western dishes, chargrill and local favourites.
