4 Things to Try at Pippo

Pippo, a casual Italian restaurant by Biko Group, serves fuss-free comfort food meant for sharing

Biko Group has added a little boy into its family. Pippo, a common name for Italian little boys, opens its doors at Senayan City. A first Biko establishment in a shopping mall, Pippo is meant to serve various groups – from families to drinking buddies.

“I want to introduce that fuss-free, no-nonsense food that I had while venturing around the countryside of Italy, serve without much embellishment,” says Biko co-founder Mikael Mirdad. The F&B group has previously been known for bars and restaurants including Beer Garden, Lola and Fujin.

Reflecting that simple approach, Pippo has a cosy interior with art deco accents here and there, especially the bar area. Like any Biko establishment, the drinks are the forte. From aperitivi to wine and cocktail – the selection varied and the restaurant opens “’till late” daily, which means generally midnight on weekdays.

The outdoor area is an oasis in the midst of a shopping mall, a smoking area at it too. Inside, the smoking and non-smoking area are divided by partitions, but after 9PM guests are allowed to smoke in any spot.

Below, 4 dishes that Prestige would recommend at Pippo, best for sharing.

Burratta E Pomodorini (IDR 195,000)

Good cheese is still a novelty in Jakarta, so it’s a delight to have a casual Italian restaurant getting burratta right. The cheese is airy and fresh while the dressing on tomatoes is on point.

Truffle and Mushrooms Pizza (IDR 195,000)

Truffle oil instantly lifts a dish up, and it does just that on the pizza. The unassuming dish ticks  two main boxes in a “good pizza” list – gooey cheese and soft dough – and scores a brownie point with truffle oil.

Gnochetti Sardi Ai Funghi (IDR 90,000)

The pasta looks thoroughly Italian, comes in a generous helping and without gimmicks. Dive into it and its beauty shows. The gnochetti taste fresh and has a good texture, while the dressing is strong in flavour. The perfect combination of an authentic Italian pasta, with Indonesian liking for strong flavours.

Salame di Cioccolato (IDR 65,000)

If Pippo is about a boy’s favourite dishes, this chocolate dessert reflects the spirit. Shaped like cuts of salami (hence the name), the dish is basically a combination of chocolate and biscuit, paired with vanilla ice cream. Comfort food at its best.
