Anaz Siantar, one of Indonesia’s leading fashion influencers, has become an Omega Speedmaster Fan. As the famous watch turned 60 last year, the Biel/Bienne-based Swiss luxury watchmaker is proudly celebrating not just the timepiece, but also the people who wear it. Many stories have been told of the astronauts, explorers and racing car drivers who have worn the Speedmaster throughout its lifetime. But today, the timepiece has a truly diverse community of fans from all over the world.
In Indonesia, in addition to Anaz, these include actor Nicholas Saputra and racing car driver Diandra Gautama. Among the international fans of the watch are Brazilian model Alessandra Ambrosio, Italian chef Massimo Bottura and German DJ Robin Schulz. All of these people have one thing in common: They love Omega’s famous chronograph.
Travelling all over the world, Anaz shares her love of fashion through her popular Instagram account and website. Prestige caught up with her in Jakarta to collaborate with Omega on a special style shoot, and to find out why and she loves watches like the Speedmaster and Tresor in an exclusive interview. Excerpts:
What are you up to these days, Anaz?
I’m still doing what I usually do, such as blogging, Instagram-ing, taking lots of pictures. And since I am in branding management, I have collaborations with various brands, and I am also travelling to events.
How and why did you start blogging about fashion?
I’ve been blogging since 2009 and the reason why I’m doing it is because I like to share, such as mixing and matching outfits. And I also want to share my personal style and what I wear daily. You see, my blog is a personal style platform, not a super fashion blog. It’s my inspiration, what I like.
How would you describe your sense of style?
I’d say it’s versatile, simple, not too much. I’m not a girl who likes to wear too much jewellery. I like simple things. Sometimes I just wear a simple bracelet with a watch. Often, I don’t wear earrings. So, I’m not a person who likes excessive accessories. I like to keep it classic and simple.
How did you become an official Omega fan?
Well, who doesn’t know Omega? It’s a brand with a long and proud history. I would say that Omega is the classical symbol of watches. So if we think about classic watches, we think about Omega. The design aesthetic is really simple, not too decorative. It’s classic. As well as the Speedmaster, I especially admire the Omega Tresor. It’s really beautiful with its diamonds and leather and satin straps. It’s effortless to wear. Sometimes too many diamonds are overwhelming. But the Omega Tresor just suits me perfectly and beautifully on its own.
How did you feel about being asked to be a friend of omega?
Well, I was really surprised when Omega called me and asked to do the photo shoot for their website. My mom has been wearing Omega watches since I can remember. I mean, who wouldn’t want to do it? It feels thrilling and I couldn’t express my happiness and gratitude more. It’s really exciting. It’s a classic brand that everyone knows and I’m really proud to be associated with it.
What are your “duties” for Omega?
Oh, being part of the Omega family, I’ve started to get invited to some wonderful events. This is something I like, that I can relate to. For instance, I recently went to the Seamaster Aqua Terra launch at Amanpulo in the Philippines, an amazing resort. The President and CEO of Omega, Raynald Aeschlimann, was there and he talked about how the watches are made for an ocean lifestyle. The models have been reshaped with a new symmetrical design, slightly different from previous versions. They are made for people who like water activities, such as diving and snorkelling.
Talking about the oceans, sustainability is an important part of the philosophy of Omega. What do you do in daily life to help protect the environment?
Simple things. I always throw my litter in the waste bin. If there’s no bin around, I keep it in my bag until I can find one. When I go to the supermarket, I always bring a big bag of my own, so that I don’t need to use their plastic bags. I try very hard to minimise my plastic usage. Everyone should do this.
