Raisa: Making an Impact

Beautiful and talented singer songwriter Raisa Andriana has won an army of fans and performed with the likes of David Foster and Brian McKnight since releasing her first album in 2011

“Music is in my soul, it’s just the same as breathing for me,” says Raisa Andriana. “That’s how important music is to me. It definitely has a very deep meaning in my life.”

The beautiful and talented 27-year-old singer songwriter has won an army of fans since releasing her first album, Raisa, in 2011. Her brand of energetic pop songs and ballads has gained enormous praise among music lovers.

In 2017, Raisa released just one single. But it was enough to win her the Best Indonesian Song prize at the 2017 Anugerah Planet Muzik awards, in competition with artists from Singapore, Malaysia and Brunei as well as Indonesia. She was also nominated for a 2017 MTV Europe Music Award.

“I am so thrilled about these awards,” says Raisa. “Winning one was so unexpected for me. But the truth is, my best achievement is when my music has an impact on the listener.”

Aside from music, the highlight of 2017 for Raisa was her whirlwind romance and wedding with actor Hamish Daud. They tied the knot in a Sundanese-style ceremony at Ayana Midplaza Jakarta on September 3. “It’s definitely a different phase in my life and I’m enjoying every minute of it,” says Raisa of her marriage.

Raisa says her favourite singers include Stevie Wonder, India Arie and Brian McKnight, whom she sang with when he gave a concert in Jakarta last year. She also performed with legendary record producer David Foster when he visited these shores in 2012. “It’s been a great journey being a singer,” says Raisa of her career so far. “This has encouraged me to keep learning from other musicians.”

What’s next for Raisa? “I’ve just finished recording a new single that I co-wrote for the soundtrack of Ayat-Ayat Cinta 2,” she tells us. “Meanwhile, I’m in the middle of making my new album for release in the early part of 2018. I’m so excited. It will be different from my previous albums. So, stay tuned!”
