“I think I was 7 years old when my mom took me to a set for the first time, a commercial,” says Ranty Maria of her debut in the entertainment industry. “I remember everything was ready and I stood in the middle of the floor, and there were cameras and people all around. Suddenly, I freaked out, ran to my mom and cried until I fell asleep. Then I woke up, and I was crying again and again.” The 19-year-old Korean-Indonesian actress, who was born in Jakarta, soon overcame her fears, however. “My mom kept taking me to the set until I fell in love with it by myself,” says Ranty. “Finally, I understood the set situation, with a lot of people around.
I did it until I was 8 years old. I was in The Heart TV series with Ari Sihasale. Then I decided to take a break and focus on school. When I was 14, I missed being an actress. I told my mom and she agreed I could back to acting, and my first movie was Perempuan Punya Cerita (2007).” Now, Ranty wants to go back to school again, this time to study at university for a degree in International Relations. She has a strong interest in diplomacy. “I just got back from Seoul after studying Korean for a month,” she says.
Of her acting career, the rising young star say: “It’s my way of self-expression and I’m grateful that I get the opportunity to do things I love. When things get stressful or I’m in a bad mood, I try to remember what I have achieved so far and then everything feels better. Which actress do I most admire? Well, how about Christine Hakim? Who doesn’t admire her? She’s a legend.”
