On 2nd of October 2017, Louis Vuitton celebrated the grand opening of its new flagship store. Situated at 2 Place Vendome, the newly designed and re-instated maison by architect Peter Marino, marks the house’s grand return to where its story began over 160 years ago, when a young Louis Vuitton opened his first store.
Travel goods, fashion and jewellery have been part of Place Vendome and its neighbourhood for over 300 years, and it was in these streets that Louis Vuitton learned his craft.
The new boutique comprises couture, ready-to-wear, jewellery, watchmaking, leather goods, shoes, fragrances, accessories and artisanal workshop, all brought together in one place. On the Place Vendome side, the second floor hosts the Appartement, a place for clients’ private viewings of the house’s collections.
Known for its collaborations with world-renowned artists, the new maison has also selected a number of contemporary artworks, with some specially commissioned. Showcased at the store are 33 works representing artists from 6 continents including Laurent Grasso, Yan Pei Ming, Stephen Sprouse, Serge Alain Nitegeka and Paul Nabulomo Namarinjmak.
The house’s focus on contemporary art and artists was also celebrated with a preview launch of the second chapter of Masters, the continuing collaboration of Louis Vuitton and Jeff Koons; a new painting from Koon’s ‘Gazing Ball’ series was exclusively launched for the occasion at the opening.
The opening night was celebrated with an exceptional cocktail in presence of many of the house’s friends, including Cate Blanchet, Julianne Moore, Michelle Williams, Jennifer Connelly, Paul Bettany, Lea Seydoux, Riley Keough, Catherine Deneuve, Jaden Smith, Ruth Negga, Fan Bing Bing and Alicia Vikander, among other guests.
