For its 10th year anniversary, Art Jakarta 2018 showcases special performances and jaw-dropping installations

Held from 2 to 5 August 2018 in the Grand Ballroom of The Ritz-Carlton Jakarta, Pacific Place, here are 10 things you can expect to see at the hotly anticipated fair.

  1. ART ATTACK

Over 1,000 works of art, 300 artists and 51 galleries are participating this year. It is Art Jakarta’s biggest one yet.

  1. INTERACTIVE PROGRAMS

Expect to do engaging creative art performances, art talks, charity programs as well as a workshop class that everybody—art enthusiasts and collectors alike—can take part in.

  1. SPOTLIGHT: Christine Ay Tjoe

One of the focal points of the fair—which runs under the theme “Celebrating
the First Decade of Art Jakarta”—comes from Indonesian artist Christine Ay Tjoe, one of the
country’s most celebrated contemporary artists, who will present her life work, entitled Metamorphosis. This display will span her entire career from start until today.

  1. WORLD-CLASS PERFORMANCES

Djarum Foundation will present a flying balloon puppet show and Sasikirana DanceLab will give the “Pasar Purnama” performance.

  1. BITES

There will be a pop up restaurant led by Executive Chef Seumas Smith from Moosehead & Maggie
Joan’s at Singapore. You can also enjoy a special Food Art performance by Chef
 Chitra.

  1. FOR A CAUSE

Several charity programs have also been organized, such as carpets for Yayasan Mitra Museum Jakarta,
 or tableware for Yayasan Jantung Indonesia.

  1. AJ 100

This year will also see the launch of AJ 100, a collection of emerging galleries whose works sell for below Rp. 100 million.

  1. 10 for 10

A collection of 10 installations by 10 acclaimed Indonesian artists: Kemal Ezedine, Yani Mariani, Agus Suwage, Syagini Ratnawulan, Bagus Pandega, Hahan, Chinati Juhansyah, Eddie Sutanto, Heri Dono and Tere.

  1. JAPANESE ART

Japan Art Now, which will simultaneously show 10 artworks by 10 Japanese artists (including Hiroto Kitagawa, Hiroyuki Matsuura, Kazuki Takamatsu and many more) in relation to the 10th anniversary of Art Jakarta.

  1. START THEM YOUNG

For young artists, the Creative Economy Agency (BEKRAF, Badan Ekonomi Kreatif) will have a special booth at the fair, whose works will be offered at prices below Rp. 25 million.
