The global Olympics fever has officially begun, with the opening ceremony set for tonight. Here is all the essentials you need to know about the biggest, most celebrated sporting spectacle.
What: This year marks the 31st Olympic games, with Rio de Janeiro as its host.
Who: Athletes from 206 countries, plus a refugee team, are set to compete in 31 sports over the course of 16 days for gold, glory and international bragging rights. Team Indonesia is made up of 28 athletes who will be competing in 7 sports.
When: Friday, August 5, at 8PM local time (Saturday, August 6 at 6AM WIB) to Sunday, August 21.
Where: 32 venues across Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. A few football matches will take place in Belo Horizonte, Brasilia, Manaus, Salvador and Sao Paulo.
This year, Omega will be the official timekeeper of the games, a role the Swiss watchmaker has held since 1932. To mark its presence in Rio 2016, Omega launches a video campaign featuring its ambassadors Michael Phelps, Chad Le Clos, Jessica Ennis-Hill and Sergio Garcia.
