Maruli Tampubolon is a highly talented and engaging man of multiple roles. He is a junior lawyer at his father’s firm, Juan Felix Tampubolon & Partners. But he is also a fine singer and an admired actor. “I am passionate about practising law, but on the other hand I have loved singing since I was a little boy,” says 29-year-old Tampubolon, who has a Bachelor’s degree in finance and business law from Edith Cowan University in Western Australia and an MBA from the same institution, as well as a Bachelor of Laws degree.
“After five years of studying law and business, I joined corporate law firm Makes & Partners in Jakarta. Thereafter, I started working for
my father and focused more on law from the litigation perspectives. I also started singing professionally, collaborating with musicians such as Glenn Fredly, Tompi, Raisa and maestro Andi Rianto. Being at the office is my passion as it enables me to share the blessing by being
able to remedy people’s matter in an amicable, affable and harmonious fashion. So, in the absence of any entertainment activities, I am
proactively determined to be at the office. As per acting is something I discovered later. It’s a new productive curiosity that intrigues me
beside law and singing.”
Tampubolon acts in the television series Patriot and has a role in a new film that will premiere in November, Terjebak Nostalgia. “Sure, it’s not easy doing all of these different things at the same time,” he says. “There are a lot of struggles that I’ve been through to finally get me to this point. What I have learned from this process is that as long as you remain consistent, highly determined and passionate about what you - you can succeed at whatever it is you want.”
