Angel Susinto: Bespoke Bride

Raf Simons designed her a bespoke wedding dress. It was a dream come true for the Dior lover.

“Dior and the people working in the company are like a family to me,” says Angel. “This relationship does not happen overnight, of course. It is developed through my visits to the store, where I get to learn more of the brand each time we share stories. I call them my Dior family.”

The fashion enthusiast, who studied Finance at the University of San Francisco, has been a fan of Dior ever since she was young. She describes Dior’s style as “high couture elegant and graceful with a modern look”, which relates well with her chic and elegant personal style. She has been a regular at the fashion shows of Dior and many other high fashion brands ever since her university days. “The first Dior show that I watched was Resort 2015. It was such an amazing experience because it was located in my favourite city, New York.”

Angel is a newlywed. She wedded long time-boyfriend, entrepreneur Paulus Sudirgo, in a grand celebration at Hotel Mulia Senayan last December. Her dress was a couture creation by Raf Simons, then Creative Director at the storied house. “My wedding day was so far the biggest celebration in my life,” smiles the newlywed. “My family and close friends from all over the world came to spend the special day with me. I was very honoured to have my good friends Raf Simons and Jean-Georges d’Orazio came over the weekend just to celebrate my wedding.”

“I have always dreamed of walking the aisle in Dior,” she says. “For as long as I could remember, I adored Dior and wanted to be a Dior bride.” For the service of holy matrimony, Angel wore a bespoke Dior Couture gown, which was inspired by the designer’s spring 2013 couture collection. Her veil, also by Dior, had a starbust of Swarovski crystals and sequins all over it, turning her into a vision in white.

Angel, who wore three gowns from different designers during her two-day wedding celebration, recalls her memorable experience during the preparation for her big day. “What got to be the most unforgettable time was when I did my last fitting at Dior’s atelier and saw my mom and sister tearing up. It was such a touching moment.”

Today, Angel has gone back to living her normal daily life. “I am currently busy helping my dad in the office, heading up the financial department at his company,” she says. “I am also striving to be a good wife every day. Besides that, I am travelling a lot with my husband.” Asked about her own personal goal in life, she replies: “I hope I can contribute whatever I can to add more value to society.”
