Tan’s fast food empire started with humble beginnings in 1975, when he and his wife Grace opened two ice-cream parlours in Manila. To get their burger recipe right, they ate hamburgers daily for a year — their Yum burger and Chickenjoy pieces became runaway hits.  Tan, 62, oversees more than 2,800 Jollibee outlets worldwide (including more than 750 in the Philippines), the Red Ribbon bakery chain, and Greenwich pizza parlours.
