Ashok Kumar Mirpuri

Ambassador to the US

An experienced diplomat, Mirpuri is Singapore's new ambassador to the United States, succeeding Her Excellency Chan Heng Chee, who served for 16 years. Mirpuri takes with him more than a decade of experience gained in his years as Singapore's envoy to Indonesia, Malaysia and Australia. His high-profile assignment will see him work to strengthen the close ties between Singapore and the US. This gained momentum in January 2012 when the two countries held their first Strategic Partnership Dialogue, followed by a ministerial meeting that introduced new mechanisms to further strengthen partnership and cooperation. Both countries are negotiating parties of the 11-nation Trans-Pacific Partnership free trade agreement. Ambassador Mirpuri joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1984 and was awarded the Public Administration Medal (Gold) by the Singapore Government in 2010.
