The fashion crowd held their breath following the announcement of Christophe Lemaire's collection for Uniqlo. This came after the news that Lemaire was to end his tenure at Hermès in 2014. The collaborative collection, launched in fall last year, was a hit. So was the following season's. The next natural step to this minimalist collaboration was to hire the French designer as creative director.
This October 14, Lemaire's first collection for Uniqlo, under a permanent label Uniqlo U, is set to hit stores and online. Designed with a team of 10 in Paris, the upcoming collection features 50 pieces for women and 34 for men. The series of elevated basics, set to mirror Uniqlo's LifeWear motto, include outerwear, sweaters, tops, skirts, shirts, dresses and pants.
Lemaire explores different materials - from ultra light ones to cashmere and cotton twill - in the collection. The silhouettes are sleek in their simplicity. Standouts include lambswool crew neck sweaters and cashmere turtlenecks, and puffer jackets (on-trend pieces alert!) and military-style coats. The main colours are classic fall hues of white, black, deep red, dark blue, brown and olive green.
Starting from October 14, the collection will be exclusively available in Indonesia at Uniqlo PIK Avenue. Click here to see the full collection.
