Hot Heritage Hotel Capella Shanghai to Open Soon

Five-star property to bring Gallic-dining flair to the city’s former French Concession.

A new and luxurious boutique hotel with a Pierre Gagnaire brasserie will soon welcome its first guests in Shanghai. Capella Shanghai is scheduled to open by summer’s end in the cultural-preservation zone of historic Xuhui District.

French mega-chef Gagnaire is currently putting together a restaurant team, and his Comptoir Pierre Gagnaire restaurant is due to open as early as July. The team will also be responsible for inclusive breakfast and room service once the property is in operation.

Capella Shanghai will be housed in the red-brick Jian Ye Li estate that dates back to the 1930s. The cluster of formerly residential buildings was designed in the shikumen architectural style – unique to Shanghai – that, from the mid-19th century onwards, combined Western and Chinese design elements. The all-villa Capella Shanghai will comprise two rows of three-storey cottages within a tranquil walled compound. Each villa will have its own gated terrace entrance and private rooftop.

The hotel’s stylish reception building will include a library-cum-lounge ideal for cocktails and afternoon tea. Guests may also enjoy casual meals and drinks in a leafy courtyard featuring a water tower bathed in red light come dusk. A welcoming cafe and bar will face the street.
