Ten, Ten Vision on Charity

We followed up with the three charities from our recent charitable 10 x 10 partnership and asked them for a postscript; how they found the event and what they did (or plan to do) with the extraordinary amount of money raised.

Ten, Ten Vision on Charity

Earlier this year, we at Prestige Hong Kong partnered with the incredible organisation, 10 x 10, which raises funds for worthy local charities. The 2017 collective was perhaps the most memorable – every single participating charity that pled their case to a room full of donors received over HK$100,000 each in one night. We catch up with them to find out how the money is being put to use.

Society for Community Organisation (SoCO):

“SoCO have been very impressed by the support provided by 10×10 – it has helped us immensely to think about how to better spread awareness about our work and the needs of the communities that we serve. We were also very impressed by how very well organised the event was, making it fun to participate in for both the organisations and the participants!

We are extremely grateful for having been chosen as one of the benefiting organisations and look forward to working with them in the future.

The funds raised by 10×10 will be used for our children’s project to provide educational services for children living in inadequate housing, as well as to create better housing for kids in their current living situation – for example, so that they have space for a small table to do their homework. We will also continue to provide social services to the children and their families.”

Richmond Fellowship of Hong Kong:

“Thank you very much for inviting Richmond Fellowship of Hong Kong to be one of the three charities participating in such a wonderful event. It was an enjoyable evening with young professionals sharing their experience with mental health services and those who are in need of mental health support as well as their caregivers. Mental wellness has become an important issue deserving of more public awareness in the community. This donation will be used for supporting and optimizing 24-hours JUSTONE Mental Health Support Service which provides telephone emotional and emergency support, regular care support and notification for medication and medical follow-up, volunteer training and community education. People in recovery from a mental illness or living with stress will benefit from the service on a 24/7 basis and will help them recover in the community. We hope the awareness of mental health and wellness will continue to be shared in society.”

Mission for Migrant Workers:

The 10×10 experience was both challenging and fulfilling: speaking of a three decade Mission to unfamiliar faces, expressing the need for a continuing support as funds for migrants’ needs are scarce. The sincerity and warm reception from 10×10 was enough to make one feel assured that no matter how difficult, “we are here, just let us know”. It was also not a contest among three major concerns. In appreciating the other charities’ priorities, I felt that it was also an event to express mutual support and solidarity among us all.

Mission for Migrant Workers work on crisis intervention and prevention through migrant empowerment. Funds raised at 10×10 will be used for assisting victims of abuse by providing temporary shelter and legal assistance; for migrants’ education on their rights and responsibilities and to develop welfare teams among migrants for peer support; and to promote harmonious households through our Happy Homes Project.

Some components of the Happy Homes project are:

  1. stories and anecdotes of positive experiences, happy incidents in the households that we upload on the Mission’s Facebook page. These are stories of harmony agreed to be posted by both the employer and domestic worker
  2. A dedicated hotline for employers if they need accurate information as most of them get it from agencies that give incomplete or incorrect information that might put them at risk;
  3. We shall give badges/souvenirs (like a seal of approval) that they can put in a prominent place at the employer home and worker teams who agree that theirs is a happy home

#HarmonyIsPossible

From all of us at Prestige Hong Kong, we encourage our readers to take part by either volunteering or simply attending the next event – 100% of your donations go directly to the charity and not a single cent is lost in administration fees or salaries, as all those taking part donate their time and skills for free.
