Chow Tai Fook’s Le Labyrinthe Artistique collection pays tribute to abstract artists as its source of inspiration.

THE WORLDS OF CRAFTS and fine art have for centuries gone hand in hand, the works of the great masters inspiring artisans to new heights. And given the palette that the jeweller has to work with in terms of colours, forms and materials, the opportunities for artistic expression are almost as infinite for the master craftsman as they are for the artist.

Chow Tai Fook, long associated with the very best in jewellery, both in Hong Kong and beyond, has launched its latest high-jewellery collection, Le Labyrinthe Artistique (The Art Labyrinth).

“Le Labyrinthe Artistique is our first ever art jewellery collection inspired by the works of significant abstract artists, to exalt their contributions in art history,” says art entrepreneur Adrian Cheng, Chow Tai Fook’s executive director. “Our exceptional jewellery design and craftsmanship not only helps us to experience the world of abstract art but also its exotic form of creativity and imagination.”

The name refers to the way in which different artists’ inspirations unfold along a surreal and often surprising path, revealing a new artistic expression at every turn. The jeweller’s designers and craftsmen have sought out the rarest and most exquisite gems, and as such the pieces in the collection represent the pinnacle of artistic achievement for Chow Tai Fook.

Les Blocs de Fantaisie is inspired by the bold colour blocks of Dutch artist Piet Mondrian (1872-1944), whose neoplasticism style evolved from the Dutch De Stijl movement. Essentially, Mondrian’s works feature bold black rectangular and square blocks, filled with the primary colours. Les Blocs de Fantaisie is a study in the interplay between contrasting spaces, and includes rubies, sapphires and tourmalines that represent the three primary colours, lending the pieces a feeling of chic modernity. Hollow-cut motifs serve to reflect Mondrian’s use of negative spaces, which are in stark contrast to the dazzle provided by diamonds, 18k yellow gold and chalcedony. When worn and moving, the pieces appear to be alive with reflected light, causing one to ponder the nature of contrast both in this world and mysterious realms beyond.

This collection encapsulates the very essence and characteristics of the designated artist, each being unique, and available exclusively to Chow Tai Fook’s VIP members, who will be able to preview the pieces in April and bid for them at this year’s auction dinner in November.
