In the latest in a series of brazen heists in France, the Audemars Piguet store near the historic and upmarket Place Vendôme was robbed last week. Brandishing handguns, a couple threatened employees and made off with several luxury watches estimated by France-based news channel BFM TV to be worth a total of US$1.1 million. No one was hurt during the robbery, police said.
It is not the first large heist in the vicinity of Place Vendôme this year. In September, thieves made off with US$2.6 million worth of watches and gems from a nearby boutique, and in October, an axe-wielding gang stole watches worth hundreds of thousands of Euros from the Vacheron Constantin store.
