MP and Allen & Gledhill Partner Tong has been in the headlines last year as the defense lawyer acting for Pastor Kong Hee in the high-profile City Harvest case. Kong and a number of other church members are alleged to have diverted church funds to finance the pop music career of Kong's wife, Sun Ho. Tong has been with Allen & Gledhill for 16 years and is described as an “excellent litigator who is capable of handling heavy-duty cases” by Asialaw Profiles. He heads Allen & Gledhill's Restructuring and Insolvency practice, and regularly acts in major corporate, commercial and insolvency disputes and arbitration for private and public listed companies. Besides his work at the firm, Tong sits on the panel of lawyers for the Legal Aid Bureau, and takes on pro bono legal work. He is also a member of parliament for the sub electoral division of Jalan Besar.
