Executive Chairman and CEO of Serial System, Derek Goh has overall management responsibility for the semiconductor and components distributor he founded as a sole proprietorship in 1988. He also leads its board in charting the group's future direction. 2013 saw Serial Systems establish a significant foothold in the US$40 million Japanese market via a joint venture with Japanese-listed company AMSC. The 60-40 joint venture, which began operations in June, is the only Asian semiconductor and components distributor in the country. The group's move into Japan follows its entry into markets including Taiwan, South Korea, China and India. For the first quarter of 2013, Serial System reported a 10 percent rise in net profit to US$1.6 million and 19 percent rise in revenue to $171.6 million. It gained from revenue growth in Greater China (up 11 percent to $88.6 million), Taiwan (up 20 percent to $13.0 million) and India (up 144 percent to $4.4 million). Serial has consistently outperformed the Asia Pacific semiconductor industry in terms of revenue over the past five years, with a CAGR of 17 percent versus the industry's seven percent.
