Mong-Joon Chung

The sixth son of Hyundai’s late founder, Chung oversaw the shipbuilding arm of the conglomerate, Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI). The prize was a reward for his intellectual accomplishment — he was the only family member to attend the prestigious Seoul National University, majoring in economics. The 63-year-old who holds a PhD in international relations, resigned from HHI to focus on politics. He was instrumental in securing South Korea’s selection as a co-host of the World Cup 2002.
