TIME AND PLACE

Every jeweller – and watchmaker – worth its name prides itself on a boutique on Place Vendôme, the centre of jewellery and watchmaking in the heart of Paris. Jaeger-LeCoultre, the Swiss watch manufacturer founded in 1833 in the legendary Vallée des Joux, has unveiled the largest watch boutique on the square in anticipation of its 180th anniversary this year. Housed in the stunning 17th-century Hotel de Villemaré designed by Mansart, one of Louis XIV's favourite architects, the three-floor boutique is a treasure trove of all the pieces created by the house, from its iconic Reverso to more complicated watches such as the Duomètre. During an extravagant event, attended by the city's glitterati along with brand ambassador Diane Kruger and French celebrities such as Catherine Deneuve and Isabelle Huppert, guests enjoyed a ribboncutting ceremony on the atmospherically illuminated square followed by an exclusive bash in the nearby Grand Hotel, with performances by acrobats from Canada's Cirque Éloize and a stable of all-white dressage horses.
