Christian Louboutin presents Shoepeaks

Is it an objet d’art? Or is it a minaudière?

For his Spring/Summer 2017 collection, Christian Louboutin flexes his creative muscles in an phenomenal new clutch he named Shoepeaks. Sounds familiar? You’re right — its inspiration comes from the 1990s cult TV series Twin Peaks, which is poised for a revival on American cable network Showtime next year.

Like the intriguing double life the drama’s protagonist Laura Palmer leads, the bag fuses two of Louboutin’s sexy So Kate pumps into an alluring piece of architecture that blurs the line between a surrealistic sculpture and functional minaudière. And as you would expect, the iconic red soles aren’t left out — the bold hue injects a visually striking touch along the sensuous curves of the clutch’s body. ShoePeaks is available in two finishes: Mysterious black in lacquered metal, or glamourous gold in polished metal.

His cred in shoe design echoes even from within. Encased in supple lambskin, the interior is rendered in the same nude shade as a Christian Louboutin shoe, complete with an embossed logo in gold. A detachable chain strap lets you carry the clutch over your shoulder or cross-body style.

Shoepeaks reveals much of the shoe maestro’s obsession with creating sculptural shoes. Created in the same artisanal process that makes the famous shoes in his Paris atelier, the bag was originally carved from wood, employing the last of the So Kate stiletto. This initial prototype is taken to Italy and produced into a mould of robust, yet lightweight, aluminium. Sculpted by hand in his factory, it is then reworked until the seamless form took shape, after which it is polished. Lacquer, or metal finish, is applied to enhance the smooth, glossy surface. Finally, the red soles are then affixed on to the two sides of the bag.
