Five picks from the Singapore Motorshow 2016

These are some of our favourites at this event, in no specific order.

Featuring more than 20 automakers who are all presenting their best and latest vehicles to the Singapore public, this year’s show has more than its share of star attractions.

1.       Lexus GS F

Having launched the RC F at the last Singapore Motorshow, Lexus thrills petrol heads once again by presenting another addition to its F range of performance cars. Sporting a naturally aspirated five-litre V8 engine, this four-seater promises 470bhp and a peak torque of 530Nm with a 7,100rpm redline. Compared to the two-seater RC F, the GS F is touted as the more lifestyle, family-oriented sports car of the two. The GS line also welcomes the new GS Turbo at this year’s Motorshow.

2.       Infiniti QX80

The full-size luxury SUV sports a new exterior, a crafted interior and better features and technology than its predecessor. Equipped with a 5.6-litre engine, the QX80 comes with standard four-wheel drive and boasts almost 400bhp and 560Nm of torque. Though this seven-seater may look hefty, it has a top speed of 210km/h and completes the century sprint in 7.6 seconds.

3.       Volvo S60 T2

Designed and built completely by the Swedish automaker, Volvo’s all-new S60 T2 promises a faster, more responsive drive with better suspension, adjustable steering and gearshift paddles. It features a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine that pushes the car to offer 122bhp and 220Nm of torque. In line with its reputation of crafting safe cars, the S60 comes standard with Intellisafe, Volvo’s suite of safety innovations.

4.       Range Rover Evoque

Kicking off the 2016 launches by Jaguar Land Rover is the new Range Rover Evoque. Touted as the brand’s star off-roader, the car features stylish enhancements to its exterior design, including a new front bumper, grilles, headlamps and alloy wheels. Interior-wise, the new Evoque comes with new seats, door casing, a new infotainment system and new colours and materials.

5.       Volkswagen Golf Variant

The all-favourite hatchback by Volkswagen has been given a facelift. This time around, the new Golf, called the Golf Variant, is fitted with a larger cargo floor — great for active families. At 4,562mm long (307mm longer than its hatchback sibling), the new release will have an impressive boot capacity of at least 605 litres, which can be extended to 1,620 litres with the rear seats down. With a 1.4-litre engine, the Golf Variant will boast 123bhp and 200Nm of torque, and a top speed of 205km/h.

Bonus: Audi R8

While it is the Audi A4 that is being launched at the show, the real star at the Audi booth is the brand’s popular supercar, the Audi R8. Specially flown in for the event, this car is a teaser for what’s to come as it is slated for release in the second quarter of the year. The revamped model will be even faster, more powerful and more dynamic than its predecessor, with its V10 engine boasting 610 horsepower, 330km/h top speed and 3.2 seconds from zero to 100km/h.

Held at the Suntec Convention & Exhibition Centre, the Singapore Motorshow 2016 runs from January 14-17.
