Fong is director-general of Singapore Customs, which last year picked up the Singapore Quality Award at the annual Business Excellence Awards. The award recognises businesses, which have demonstrated outstanding management capabilities, and delivered superior performance and results. The agency has successfully leveraged technology and enhanced productivity with its national IT platform, TradeXchange. The platform enables companies to cut preparation time for trade declarations by up to 50%, and freight forwarders to save time in marine cargo insurance applications by up to 90%. Over the last five years, Singapore Customs was ranked first in the World Bank Doing Business Report for the ease of trading across borders. Meanwhile, Singapore Customs jumped to the second spot, up from 11th position in 2011, in the latest Pro-Enterprise Ranking survey, which assesses government regulatory agencies on how business-friendly they are.
